I have met Armenians who want to live in freedom, dignity, democracy and prosperity as they live in Europe. That is why I am promoting and working for the development that the EU reaches out to Armenia and supports it in all its attempts to get closer to the EU, realizing that this is a long, difficult road, but it is worth going. The Chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Relations Committee, Michael Roth, said this during the press conference.
"The commitment of the EU is to ensure the greatest peace and security for Europeans in the pan-European area, and I can single out three specific points in this regard, among which are Eastern Europe, which includes Ukraine and Moldova, the Western Balkans and the South Caucasus region, with a significant presence of Armenia," he said.
Michael Roth noted that no country is forced to follow the European path. "We are here to talk and understand the wishes and ideas of the Armenian side, to understand what they want and how we can support them," said the Chairman of the Bundestag's Foreign Relations Committee.
Referring to cooperation in the military sphere, he noted that it is necessary not to misunderstand this issue. "The EU is not a military alliance, and our support to Armenia is carried out both in humanitarian, political, economic and social directions, but also, possibly, through military support. But this process should not be considered automatic, and we naturally try to do everything to prevent a new military conflict, and we support Armenia in its development," said Michael Roth.
