The UN Security Council will discuss the events in the Middle East and the attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip in an open session on Wednesday. Representatives of both Israel and Palestine are expected to speak at the meeting.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was horrified by the killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians in an attack on a hospital in Gaza and strongly condemned the attack.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Bujar Osmani, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz were shocked by that attack. They expressed condolences to the families of the victims, condemned the air attack and emphasized the importance of conducting an investigation into all the circumstances of the attack.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, stated that the European Union should condemn not only the attack of Hamas on Israel, but also the attacks on the civilian population of Gaza.
"Of course, Israel has the right to defend itself. But the right to defend oneself has limits, in this case it is international law and international humanitarian law. We condemn the terrible terrorist attacks on Israel, but I think we should also condemn the attacks on the civilian population in Gaza," Borrell said.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, called on the heads of Muslim and Arab countries not only to condemn Israel's actions, but also to take practical measures to stop the country's war machine.
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, also stated that Israel, with the participation of its American partners, should provide satellite images to prove that it did not participate in the attack on the Gaza hospital.
