On October 13, the NA President of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Republic of Armenia Eric De Muynck.
The RA NA President congratulated the guest on assuming the position of the First Resident Ambassador in the Republic of Armenia.
“We highly appreciate the effective and constructive dialogue between Armenia and Belgium both in bilateral and multilateral frameworks, especially in the context of Armenia-EU partnership. The Belgian Government’s decision to open a Resident Embassy in Yerevan is a proof of our strong partnership,” the Speaker of Parliament emphasized.
The parties discussed close inter-parliamentary relations, mentioning as an example the arrival of the Belgian parliamentarians in Armenia a few days after Azerbaijan invaded our sovereign territory in September 2022. The RA NA President, introducing a number of details regarding the forcibly displaced people, noted that he expects support from his Belgian colleagues in providing priority humanitarian assistance to the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as in supporting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
The interlocutors also exchanged ideas on the necessity to impose targeted sanctions on Azerbaijan. The Ambassador underscored the importance of establishing stable peace in the region, as well as referred to the necessity of the Rome Statute recently ratified by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
