The Palestinian group Hamas has installed a series of defensive barriers near the Gaza Strip to protect the region from an Israeli ground operation, The Washington Post reports, citing the statement of a Western official.
According to the interlocutor of the newspaper, the intelligence services of Jordan and Egypt have warned Israel that Hamas has prepared improvised explosive devices, anti-tank weapons and other means of defense near the enclave, and in case of an attack on the sector, the Israeli military faces dangers at every turn. Egypt later denied the report, according to which Cairo allegedly warned Israel about the Hamas attack 10 days ago.
The Washington Post added that the Palestinians would be able to launch attacks using a maze of high-rise buildings that house hidden garrisons and minefields. There are several kilometers of tunnels under the city itself, where Palestinian militants can easily hide.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant announced on Tuesday that the Israeli army is preparing to launch a large-scale attack on the Gaza Strip. According to the minister, Gaza will never be the same as it was.
