The delegation led by EU Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarčič is in Armenia. After the discussion in the Government, Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan and Janez Lenarčič made a statement.
“We talked with the Commissioner about the main problems that have arisen as a result of Azerbaijan's continuous use of force and implementation of anti-Armenian policy in relation to the humanitarian support of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh,” said Tigran Khachatryan.
The Deputy Prime Minister also informed that they talked about the assessment of the urgent needs of more than 100 thousand compatriots who were forcibly displaced and found refuge in Armenia, including health, social, psychological and financial issues.
“Armenia’s Government highly appreciates the quick response that the EU and its member states have shown and continue to show in addressing the priority needs of our displaced compatriots.
With the Commissioner, we emphasized the issues of coordinating the efforts made by Armenia’s Government and the EU regarding large-scale humanitarian activities, creating a common platform for cooperation in directing the received humanitarian assistance to the needs of forcibly displaced people, and increasing the effectiveness of our actions in this format,” he said.
Khachatryan also said that the importance of assessing the short-term, medium-term and long-term needs of forcibly displaced people was highlighted as a priority.
“During the discussion, we came to an agreement that the EU will continue to provide increased support in all necessary directions, taking into account the great experience it has in crisis management issues.
We express our conviction that the support provided by the EU will significantly contribute to the fact that the programs implemented by Armenia’s Government will most efficiently solve the priority needs of our forcibly displaced compatriots,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
