I appreciate your visit to Armenia as a step of support in such a difficult period for us. I am sure you are aware of the situation created after the recent military operations carried out by Azerbaijan. We are grateful to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania for providing humanitarian aid to the Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, and we also emphasize Armenia-EU mutual cooperation: The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan said, welcoming the delegation led by the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė to the Parliament. He valued the cooperation of the parliaments of the two countries and the close work of the Friendship Groups.
The delegation led by the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania includes the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas Žygimantas Pavilionis and the Deputy Chair of the Committee on European Affairs Marius Matijošaitis.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Lithuania Friendship Group Arsen Torosyan, the Chair of the Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan, the member of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Maria Karapetyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Armenia Andrius Pulokas.
The Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, thanking for the warm reception, also appreciated the dynamically developing relations formed between the two countries.
“The purpose of our visit is to deepen cooperation and help Armenia on its chosen path. We know what cruelty from neighbours means. It is necessary to prevent the repetition of history in every possible way,” Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė said.
The members of the Friendship Group, drawing parallels with the situation in the Republic of Lithuania in the 1990s, highlighted the importance of ensuring security and peace in the region. Presenting details of the current situation, the issue of imposing sanctions on Azerbaijan was underscored. The MPs referred to the peace agenda, clear plans and steps aimed at economically developing Armenia.
