To say that we have left Nagorno-Karabakh alone is the most unfair accusation that can be made. Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, reminding that over the past 3 years, Armenia has provided more than $1 billion in financing to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pashinyan believes that before and during the Lachin Corridor blockade, Nagorno-Karabakh did not lack anything in terms of self-defense.
"I did not say that we will not intervene, I said that the goal is to involve Armenia in military operations, and we will not be involved in military operations, but we have provided full political support to Nagorno-Karabakh," he said.
Pashinyan emphasized again that the target of the latest provocation continues to be Armenia in some sense.
"The goal and main target of that provocation was and in some sense continues to be Armenia. And I, as the Prime Minister of Armenia, first of all, it is my responsibility to ensure the security of Armenia, including for the sake of our sisters and brothers of Nagorno-Karabakh," he said, then urged to imagine for a moment what would happen if they could not find shelter, and there would be no state to meet their primary needs.
The Prime Minister also referred to his statement that the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh was not in direct danger before the forced displacement.
"My motivation was not to intensify the threats against these people. I could have made such a statement that 300 more people would have died under those conditions, nothing would have changed. My task was not to make a statement that 300 more people would die. My task was to make a statement so that no hair would be missing from anyone's head," he said, reminding that more than 100,000 people reached Armenia safely.
