Syunik province's Governor Robert Ghukasyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani on October 3. The Facebook page of the Syunik governor's office reports.
Ambassador Sobhani said that he would very much like to meet the governor for the first time in a situation that would not coincide with today's situation, which is also painful for them. "It is not about political issues, but humanitarian issues."
The Ambassador informed about the humanitarian assistance sent by Tehran to Syunik, noting that it is primary aid, and wanted to hear from the governor about the urgent, mid-term and long-term needs of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, so that the further assistance sent from Iran would be more relevant and appropriate.
The diplomat also informed that before this meeting he met several displaced families.
Robert Ghukasyan thanked for the visit and also for the humanitarian aid, expressing hope that in future meetings they will be able to talk about other programs, cooperation and development initiatives.
Answering the high-ranking diplomat's questions, the governor presented the complex process of receiving, supporting, accommodating and sending people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh in Syunik, as well as the priority and further needs in this context, the solution of which would be desirable to cooperate with the Iranian side.
The participants of the meeting also discussed other issues of mutual interest, which were related to the economy, security, infrastructure development, etc.
By the way, Mehdi Sobhani noted that in the construction and other works carried out by IRI in the region, they will try to employ forcibly displaced persons, solving the issue of their employment.
