On October 3, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan received the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan headed by Mr. Ikegami Masaki, the Deputy Assistant Minister, Deputy Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, who arrived in Armenia for the political consultations.
During the consultations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral, regional and international agenda. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia provided detailed information regarding Azerbaijan’s military attack on Nagorno Karabakh on September 19-20, its policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as regarding the mass forced displacement of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the resulting dire humanitarian situation.
Masaki Ikegami noted that the Japanese side is closely following the developments in Nagorno-Karabakh, and expressed readiness to contribute as much as possible to overcome the consequences of the dire humanitarian situation.
At the meeting both sides highlighted the importance of activating bilateral high-level visits. Views were also exchanged on the further expansion and deepening of cooperation in trade-economic, scientific-educational and other spheres.
