On September 28, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia had a telephone conversation with Tobias Billström, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.
The issues on the security situation in the South Caucasus were discussed.
Minister Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the situation resulting from the large-scale military offensive carried out by Azerbaijan on September 19 and mass forcible displacement of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, emphasizing the importance of the appropriate international assessment in the context of both overcoming the current humanitarian challenges and preventing the further use of force.
Ararat Mirzoyan noted that resulting from Azerbaijan’s policy of ethnic cleansing over 70.000 people were forcibly displaced to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized the imperative to restrain the attempts aimed at destabilising the region and the provocations against territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. The necessity of clear messages and steps from the EU and its member states was emphasised.
