We are clearly dealing with a process of forced displacement, Armenia's Ombudswoman says.
Armenia's Human Rights Defender talked with displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and collected data. Anahit Manasyan said this during the briefing held at the Kornidzor civil reception center.
"I would like to state one thing clearly that in this case we are obviously dealing with a process of forced displacement, because even in cases where people, in fact, yes, they are currently leaving their homes, their homeland, but it is obvious that that situation was created because they don't have guarantees regarding their fundamental rights, safety guarantees," said the RA HRD, and also added that the rights of pregnant women were also violated due to malnutrition.
Anahit Manasyan informed that psychological support is also provided to displaced persons, and as for the protection of the rights of school-aged children, she urged the mass media not to focus on them.
"We ask the mass media, so that if pictures or videos are taken, their faces should be covered as much as possible, or they should not be in the broadcast frame, because from the point of view of children, this is a very important issue of guaranteeing the right of the children," the RA HRD emphasized.
The Ombudswoman also informed that she is also working with international partners.
