As you know, since yesterday, citizens are being transported from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia through the Lachin Corridor. As of 12:00, the data has already been published: 4,850 citizens have already crossed the border and are in Armenia. The reception of the latter is carried out at the humanitarian station in Kornidzor. Vardan Sargsyan, representative of the humanitarian crisis management working group in Nagorno-Karabakh, said in a briefing with journalists in Kornidzor.
"Citizens are registered, a primary assessment of their needs takes place, according to which the relevant works are carried out. Here, there is also a point to take care of the basic needs of the citizens, psychological support is provided to the citizens. All bodies are working 24 hours a day, the station is working, the coordination center in Goris is also functioning, where citizens who have a housing problem are sent after registering there and assessing their needs, they are provided with a suitable place of residence," he said.
Vardan Sargsyan mentioned that the Goris coordination center is intended for those citizens who have a residence problem, and up to now all citizens registered and applied for residence have been provided with appropriate residence.
"Settlements are planned for the entire territory of the republic. It is not limited only to Syunik province," he said.
According to Vardan Sargsyan, the transportation of citizens from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia is carried out by citizens' personal cars and buses.
He has no information about the solution to the fuel shortage issue. "There is that information, and I think steps will be taken to solve the problem," he said.
In response to the question of how many citizens Armenia can accept, Vardan Sargsyan said: "The government announced that the government is ready to support and accept the people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, and in that regard I can't say about specific financial means or other details, but the government has expressed its readiness. If I'm not mistaken, the number 40 thousand was called in advance, maybe it needs to be adjusted. I can't say anything more than the pre-announced number.
As for how long the works of accepting the citizens will continue, he said that at the moment there is no question as to how long the works will be carried out. "As long as there is a flow of citizens and they need to be registered, the process should continue," said Vardan Sargsyan.
