On September 22, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić.
The interlocutors discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19, which was preceded by the 9-month blockade of the Lachin corridor, openly demonstrates Baku's contempt for human rights, international and humanitarian law, its own international obligations, including those assumed within Council of Europe, as well as for many targeted messages from the international community. Minister Mirzoyan reiterated the position that clear steps are needed to guarantee the security and rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In this context, the effective use of relevant instruments by international partners, including within the Council of Europe, was emphasized.
