Iran has decided to revoke the accreditation of several International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors who inspected uranium enrichment facilities and has informed the organization about this, agency head Rafael Grossi said on September 16.
According to him, Tehran’s decision limits the IAEA’s ability to conduct inspections in the country, since about a third of the core group of inspectors is suspended. In this regard, he condemned the decision of the Iranian authorities and called on the republic to cooperate, noting that otherwise the IAEA would not be able to guarantee the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program.
“These inspectors are some of the agency’s most experienced experts and have unique knowledge of enrichment technologies. They carried out important verification work at enrichment facilities in Iran that are under agency guarantees,” TASS quoted the statement as saying.
In 2015, Iran, as well as China, Russia, Great Britain, France, the United States and Germany signed the Agreement on the Iranian Nuclear Program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions on the republic. However, in 2018, US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw from the agreement. In response to this, in 2019, Tehran announced the suspension of implementation of two points of the deal.
