Due to the well-known events, there is a certain lack or deviation of attention towards the South Caucasus, on the other hand, we have certain border problems that we need to address or supplement the tools at our disposal. Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this on the air of the Public TV's "Interview" program.
"You are trying to connect the Rome Statute, the Armenian-American military exercises, even my wife's visit to Ukraine with the border situation. The context of your question is whether these processes will not lead to border escalation," said the Prime Minister, while reminding that in September 2020 there were none of these processes, it was the same in September 2022, but that did not prevent us from having a war situation on the border.
Today we are trying to use the tools that we can get to add factors to border security that will help us. The Rome Statute has nothing to do with Armenia-Russia relations. We ratify it because we want the September 2022 and May 2021 cases become the subject of investigation at the International Criminal Court. This is another factor that can have a significant impact in terms of increasing our security level in the conditions when the CSTO has not fulfilled and is not fulfilling its obligations towards Armenia. We cannot ignore this and do nothing. It is our obligation to take steps by which we will try to acquire additional security tools, including international ones. We are actively working to form correct perceptions about all this in the Russian Federation. We have proposed a very specific solution related to the Rome Statute, which can dispel all fears, and we are working towards that solution," he said.
