In an interview with Armenpress, European Parliament member, rapporteur on Armenian issues, Andrey Kovachev, expressed the opinion that the European Union and the United States should put pressure on Azerbaijan to stop blocking the Lachin Corridor and ensure bilateral free movement.
According to him, the policy pursued by Azerbaijan does not contribute to the formation of an atmosphere of trust and the establishment of peace. "The comprehensive peace agreement should include the delimitation of the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, guarantees for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, and it should not be based exclusively on the constitution and laws of Azerbaijan. "International guarantees are necessary to protect Armenians' daily life, education, religion, career development and social welfare, because Nagorno-Karabakh is their native home," said the deputy.
Kovachev considered it unacceptable and reprehensible that Azerbaijan did not respect the trilateral statement of 2020. "The created situation clearly violates the trilateral statement of 2020, where it was guaranteed that this corridor will work in both directions, and its guarantor should be the Russian military presence there, but they are not fulfilling their obligations. This again shows that the Russians are not a reliable partner in any situation," said the deputy.
