Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib in Baku. The parties discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation, referred to developments in the South Caucasus.
Bayramov once again spoke from the so-called "Zangezur Corridor", accusing Armenia of allegedly disrupting the settlement process. Bayramov also claimed that traffic through Lachin Corridor is not blocked. Bayramov reminded that the Kingdom of Belgium will preside over the European Union from January, urging not to conduct a policy of double standards towards Azerbaijan.
Lahbib, for her part, emphasized that now a historic opportunity has been created to achieve sustainable peace in the region. "It is important that the parties show sincerity and determination, we must continue cooperation," the minister emphasized. "Peace is important for Armenia, Azerbaijan and the whole world," added the diplomat.
Traditionally, foreign ministers of foreign countries are also received by the President of Azerbaijan. However, according to the Azerbaijani state agency APA, Aliyev refused to receive the Belgian foreign minister, according to the website, "due to her pro-Armenian stance and pro-Armenian statements made during his official visit to Armenia the other day."
Two days ago, during the press conference held in Yerevan after the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Armenia, Hadja Lahbib stated that Azerbaijan is obliged to ensure the safety of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians and free movement through the Lachin Corridor, the restriction of which creates a threat of starvation. Lahbib promised to repeat the positions she expressed in Yerevan in Baku.
