Nagorno-Karabakh President Arayik Harutyunyan made a post on Facebook.
“Dear compatriots,
In recent days, there has been a significant increase in international attention to the Artsakh issue and pressure on Azerbaijan. In particular:
• It is welcome that, taking into account the urgings of the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh, the Republic of Armenia sent a letter to the President of the UN Security Council with a request to convene an emergency meeting of the Security Council regarding the deterioration of the humanitarian situation as a result of the forced complete blockade on the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. Importantly, the letter also officially emphasizes the goal of preventing genocide.
• Also welcome is the statement by a group of UN experts emphasizing the urgent need to open the Lachin Corridor and ensure the safety, dignity and well-being of all individuals.
• It is clear that my recent message to the international community and the report of the first Prosecutor General of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, received a great response in the international media. As a result, dozens of leading media referred to the current situation and presented the assessments and appeals of Artsakh authorities and leading experts regarding the ongoing genocide.
• The statement of famous genocide experts also contained an important expert opinion and admonition, which emphasizes the need for immediate and decisive actions to prevent the genocide against the people of Artsakh.
Of course, in these and earlier days, other statements were also made by representatives of a number of international organizations and states, in which the perception of the urgency of international practical steps is visibly increasing. Of course, time is of the essence for our people, and delay costs lives and suffering.
We urge and demand all key actors not to delay and wait for more large-scale tragedies to take practical and effective steps to stop the further course of this genocide,” the post reads.
