On August 11, Deputy Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan had a phone conversation with Andris Pelšs, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
The Deputy Foreign Minister briefed on the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor, as well as its devastating consequences for the 120,000 population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Deputy Minister emphasized the dire situation in violation of the right to life of vulnerable groups in particular: pregnant women, elderly people, citizens with serious health issues.
Vahan Kostanyan noted that the Republic of Azerbaijan persists in violating the Orders of the International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6 on the restoration of free movement along the Lachin corridor, which reveals the true intentions of Azerbaijan: to conduct ethnic cleansing of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The vital imperative to immediately prevent the humanitarian crisis through clear steps by international partners was underscored.
During the phone conversation, the counterparts also touched upon the importance of taking effective steps aimed at expanding bilateral relations between Armenia and Latvia.
