Signals from Azerbaijan and Armenia about their commitment to achieve peace as soon as possible do not mean that the sides are ready to agree on any terms, Deputy Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Information and Press Department Alexei Zaytsev said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
According to him, there is still need to find solutions to a number of complex issues, Commenting on the recent statement by Denis Gonchar, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Fourth Department for CIS Countries, that Azerbaijan and Armenia are not ready to conclude a peace treaty on any terms and that some complicated issues remain to be resolved, Zaytsev explained that the diplomat was saying that there is no need to force the process.
"The process should last as long as it takes to get high-quality and reliable agreements in the end. It may be advantageous for someone to force the process in order to achieve something as soon as possible, but the question is how it will be implemented afterwards. This, as I understand it, is what he emphasized in his speech," he said.
In general, Zaytsev noted that the preparation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty is one of the elements of the trilateral agreements between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan and the Armenian prime minister.
"The Russian side is actively supporting Baku and Yerevan in the preparation of this document, using political and diplomatic channels at all levels. Trilateral summits are held annually, foreign ministers meet regularly," he added.
