Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali met with Igor Levitin, an aide to the Russian president, exchanging views on ways to expand transportation cooperation, especially the construction project of Rasht-Astara railway, ISNA reports.
During the meeting, Kazem Jalali emphasized the importance of this project in developing transportation between the two countries, stressing the need to accelerate the start of the implementation of construction of this strategic transit route.
In line with the expansion of maritime transportation of cargo between Iran and Russia, he also emphasized the development of ports and the dredging of the Volga River.
Igor Levitin, for his part, emphasized the Russian government’s interest in starting the construction of this route as a complementary link in the North-South corridor.
He also called for the continuation of negotiations between relevant departments in both countries.
