Azerbaijan detained a 68-year-old citizen of Nagorno-Karabakh, who was being transferred to a medical facility in Armenia through the Red Cross for treatment, Nagorno-Karabakh State Minister Gurgen Nersisyan said in a statement.
"While Azerbaijan is allegedly called to respect at least the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross, today a 68-year-old citizen of Artsakh Republic was detained by Azerbaijan from among the patients being transported to the medical facilities of the Republic of Armenia through the ICRC and transferred from the checkpoint to another place.
At the moment, the ICRC representative is with our citizen but the negotiations have not yielded any results yet, we are waiting for new information. In the same convoy, our citizens who were transported to Armenia accompanied by the ICRC representative from the city of Goris were transferred to the Goris medical facility, and the returning convoy with our citizens, who were treated in Armenia, to Artsakh was canceled.
Worth to note that Azerbaijan has always tried in every possible way to obstruct the process of transferring patients to Armenia even through the ICRC and every time presented new conditions to the ICRC, and this was another step to create fear among people even to pass through the Lachin Corridor for the treatment purpose. These are the day-by-day worsening consequences of recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and calling Artsakh part of Azerbaijan by Armenian authorities, inadequate condemnation of the months-long crimes against the people of Artsakh, and the international community showing almost inaction. This must be prevented at any cost. Armenian people, I am crying again and again, wake up, stand against all this!", the state minister's Facebook post said.
