On 28 July, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations Mher Margaryan met with the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderitu to discuss the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh following the disruption of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and its devastating impact upon the affected population.
Ambassador Margaryan stressed that, since December 2022, Azerbaijan has been targeting the population of Nagorno-Karabakh by inflicting conditions of blockade and denying humanitarian presence, in full demonstration of a clear genocidal intent.
The Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide was informed that Azerbaijan has refused to allow the delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh. It was emphasized that, in the face of an existential threat for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, the need to deploy the early warning mechanisms by the UN and the international community was ever more imperative.
