The Republic of Armenia cannot decide the Nagorno-Karabakh people' fate with the logic that the representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh should be a party to the negotiations, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told during the press conference on July 25, in response to the question of journalist Mushegh Isakhanyan from Public TV Company of Armenia, whether it is possible that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue will be removed from the agenda of the Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations, or the opposite will happen, that is, the status issue will be returned to the agenda.
The journalist also emphasized that the Nagorno-Karabakh government criticizes the policy of Armenia regarding the future of Armenia, noting that any concessionary step taken by Armenia is meaningless for them, although at the same time they state that Stepanakert cannot negotiate with Baku when the policy of ethnic cleansing is being conducted at the same time.
"Our opinion is that Armenia cannot decide the fate of the NK people with the logic that the representatives of NK should be on the side of negotiations, conversation, dialogue, and we are promoting that agenda, bearing in mind that the rights and security of the NK people should be discussed with the participation of NK representatives, in the format of the Baku-Stepanakert dialogue, within the framework of the international mechanism. And I think that the representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh, the people, the Government will have the opportunity to address all the issues that concern them within the framework of this resolution, and not only raise questions, and not only generate content, but also, which is very important, bear the political responsibility related to that content, and not only the political responsibility", he said, emphasizing that this is the right way.
The journalist clarified: as long as Armenia is negotiating, as long as Nagorno-Karabakh is unable to negotiate, can Armenia make any changes to the agenda at this time?
"I have stated before that it is a matter of thinking in general whether a possible peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan should refer to Nagorno-Karabakh, i.e. a comprehensive solution, or should the issues related to the rights and security of the Nagorno-Karabakh people move forward and be addressed with a different logic, and we have no decision on this matter. This does not mean that we do not have a position", he said, emphasizing that this position was already expressed in the first part of his answer.
