Temperatures over the past week have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in many parts of Greece and were forecast to persist in the coming days.
Officials said the threat of further fires was high in almost every region of the country.
Wildfires burned across Greece on Monday (July 24), forcing people to be evacuated from Corfu and other islands bustling with summer visitors.
Footage shared on social media showed locals and tourists leaving on foot, some lugging their suitcases on roads.
