The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the statements of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination groundless and unilateral, which demanded that Paris eliminate the systemic causes of racial discrimination in the police.
"France expresses its disapproval of the excessive comments and regrets that the unjustified violence against the police and others in recent days has been forgotten. Any accusations of racism or systemic discrimination by French law enforcement officers are groundless," the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
France is said to follow the provisions of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and the police are subject to internal, external and judicial oversight that exists in only a few countries.
