Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has announced that the Islamic Republic and the Azerbaijan agree that the historical railway corridor passing through Iran needs to be activated, IRNA reports.
Amirabdollahian made the remarks to reporters on Wednesday after meeting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, where the top diplomat attended a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
“Mr. Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has not been and will not be seeking to close Iran’s historical transportation routes,” he said.
The Foreign Minister reiterated that as the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran's judiciary announced, Iran has completed its investigation on armed action.
Referring to the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev early on Wednesday, Iran’s top diplomat said that they discussed unblocking routes in the region and the Azerbaijani side emphasized that Azerbaijan has not and will not seek to close the historical communication routes of Iran.
During discussions on the removal of blockades on transportation routes in the region, the Foreign Minister emphasized that linking the historical transportation routes between Iran and Armenia with the removal of blockades is an incorrect analysis and evaluation.
He further emphasized that Azerbaijan is not seeking to close the historical transportation routes of Iran, and it has no intention to do so.
Later Abdollahian referred to the meeting in Twitter, saying, “Today I had a constructive, detailed and fruitful meeting with the President Ilham Aliyev in Baku. It is expected that the results of this frank and intimate dialogue will open a new chapter in the relations between the two friendly, brotherly and neighboring countries Iran and Azerbaijan and will disappoint the enemies and ill-wishers of the two countries”.
