On June 30, the delegation led by James O'Brien, the US State Department's Coordinator for Sanctions, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial.
“The delegation also included Kumar Iyer, Director General, Economics, Science and Technology at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. John Gallagher, UK Ambassador to Armenia, accompanied the delegation.
Edita Gzoyan, deputy director for scientific works of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, welcomed the guests and presented the history of the creation of the memorial complex. She referred to the stories of the three khachkars (cross-stones) erected in the memory of the Armenians who died in the massacres organized by the Azerbaijani Government in Sumgait, Kirovabad (Gandzak), Baku in the last century in the territory of Tsitsernakaberd, and the stories of the five freedom fighters buried in front of Hushapat (memorial wall) during the Artsakh war, stressing that what happened was a continuation of the Armenian Genocide. Edita Gzoyan also referred to the historical and legal aspects of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue, presented Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian actions and propaganda.
James O'Brien and Kumar Iyer laid wreaths at the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, after which the guests placed flowers near the eternal fire and observed a minute's silence in memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.
The guests also toured the Armenian Genocide Museum, where, accompanied by Edita Gzoyan, Deputy Director for Scientific Works of the Armenian Genocide Museum, they got acquainted with the permanent and temporary exhibitions, after which Mr. James O'Brien made a note in the Guest of Honor book.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Edita Gzoyan, the deputy director for scientific works of the Armenian Genocide Museum, presented books about the Armenian Genocide to James O'Brien, the coordinator of sanctions of the US Department of State, the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute said in a statement.
