Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez addressed Ukrainian Parliament on Saturday (July 1) saying Ukraine is going to win the war and reiterating the European commitment to Ukrainian future EU membership, Reuters reports.
On the same day Spain takes over the European Union's six-month rotating presidency, Sanchez visited Kyiv and said no one deserves more than Ukraine to get the European Union status.
Sanchez also announced Spain would send another 55 million euros in aid to Ukraine.
The Spanish PM wants the trip to be the Spanish presidency's first act "to show with his presence the EU's undivided support to Ukraine in all fields: military, humanitarian and economic," his office said.
Sanchez is set to hold a joint press conference with President Zelenskiy.
He said the war in Ukraine and its consequences would be a priority during the presidency.
Countries holding the presidency traditionally try to set the agenda within the bloc, though the results ultimately depend on all member states.
