Ukraine will never agree to freeze the conflict on its territory. President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this in a speech at the session of the Verkhovna Rada dedicated to the Constitution Day of the country.
He once again reminded about the Ukrainian ‘peace resolution’, which, according to him, “is supported by many people all over the world.”
In his speech, Zelensky also spoke about NATO membership.
The President of Ukraine believes that his country will become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Ukraine has become a candidate for the EU, the same will be the case with NATO,” he said at the session of the Verkhovna Rada.
Moreover, Zelensky is convinced that Russia is interested in Kyiv's membership in NATO, and now is the right time for Moscow to ask the alliance to accept Ukraine.
According to his reasoning, by becoming a member of NATO, Kyiv should assume the obligation to ensure peace in its region. According to Zelensky, Russia is also interested in this. Ukraine's President made the announcement just minutes after expressing displeasure at the fact that some Western leaders still look to Russia in their decision-making.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also appealed to the participants of the NATO summit in Vilnius, calling on them to make a “strategic decision” to invite Kyiv to the alliance.
The statement made by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg on June 19 is known, according to which the allies are not discussing Ukraine's official invitation at the Vilnius summit and preparing for it, but are holding consultations on which decisions can bring Kyiv closer to joining the alliance. “The main thing is that Ukraine is preserved as a sovereign state,” Stoltenberg said.
“Ukraine's victory is a guarantee of restoration of security and territorial integrity for Moldova, Georgia, new power for the South Caucasus, will and peace for Belarus, energy for the Baltic-Black Sea axis, security guarantee and protection from manipulation for the whole of Central Asia, an opportunity for the Middle East, a guarantee that African countries will stop being robbed by the Russians,” Zelensky stated.
He also proposed to submit the concept of Ukraine's development to a referendum.
Volodymyr Zelensky also proposed to legalize medical cannabis-based medicine and to officially establish the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine.
