On the eve of the day of remembrance of missing persons, a regular meeting of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) commission dealing with the issues of captives, hostages and missing persons took place, chaired by the chairman of this commission, Artsakh Minister of Internal Affairs Karen Sargsyan.
Sargsyan reflected on the respective work done by this commission in 2022 and in the first half of 2023.
"The steps to find the [Artsakh] persons declared missing are not going smoothly. Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani organization dealing with the issues of missing persons, which does not maintain any boundaries of cooperation with the Armenian side and international humanitarian organizations, have their share of the blame in this matter," said Karen Sargsyan,
He added that as a result of the war in 2020, the fate of 49 Artsakh citizens, of which 30 are servicemen and 19 are civilians, remains unknown.
During the discussions, the aforesaid commission’s members raised a number of matters that are particularly related to the DNA test identification process of the bodies and remains found in the Azerbaijani-occupied territories of Artsakh after the 2020 war. In this regard, the chairman of the aforementioned Artsakh commission set a new date for another meeting, in which the relatives of the missing persons will also participate.
