The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, issued a statement regarding the complete blocking of the Lachin Corridor. The statemewnt reads:
“In connection with the blocking of the entrance to the Lachin Corridor by the Azerbaijani side, we draw attention to the fact that such actions violate the provisions of the statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9, 2020.
Such steps lead to an increase in tension, they do not contribute to the maintenance of a normal atmosphere around the Russian-supported process towards the settlement of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We call on Baku to completely unblock traffic through the Lachin Corridor.
We also hope that Yerevan will not withdraw from cooperation in trilateral formats. The downtime of their activities has a negative impact on the situation in the region and leads to “local” escalation. We emphasize the rhythmic work in the direction of the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border within the framework of the relevant commission. We are ready to provide the necessary consulting assistance.
We reiterate our appeal to both parties - Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia at the highest level - to strictly observe the trilateral agreements, to show restraint and to realize the importance of the responsibility of ensuring security in the area of the Lachin Corridor.
The Russian side will continue to make active efforts in contacts with Baku and Yerevan to settle the situation."
