Paul Gavan, speaker at the PACE summer session on ‘Ensuring free and safe access through the Lachin Corridor’, noted at the beginning of his speech that he was not referring to the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but to the blocking of the Lachin Corridor.
He noted that he visited Armenia as part of the investigation in the Lachin Corridor, but he did not receive an invitation from Azerbaijan, moreover, he was denied access to the Lachin Corridor, which, according to the PACE deputy, contradicts Azerbaijan’s claims that there are no obstacles to entering the Lachin Corridor.
“The conclusion I made is that there is neither free nor safe movement in the Lachin corridor,” Gavan said, adding that if the Red Cross delivers humanitarian aid to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), what kind of free entry is it.
The PACE deputy referred to the use of hate speech and threats by the top leadership of Azerbaijan, presented clear examples, adding that such speech is completely unacceptable.
The MP considered it necessary to observe the provisions of the trilateral statement. He expressed the opinion that a fact-finding group should be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh. The MP called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to join the Council of Europe documents on the protection of minority rights.
