The United States is an obstacle to the long-existing two-state solution to the decades-old Palestine-Israel conflict, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said in an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG) on Thursday, Reuters reports.
Abbas was on a state visit to China from June 13-16 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which he briefed Chinese leaders on the Palestinian-Israeli tensions.
"It has been decades of time since the 'two-state solution' was put forward in the international community. It has been accepted, including by Israel which often talks about this plan, but it fails to be implemented. The United States is an obstacle to this solution. If the United States truly accepts and is willing to support this plan, it will be implemented smoothly. In the face of such a situation, Palestine will not lose heart and hopes that all countries in the world can jointly promote an effective implementation of the 'two-state solution' at an early date," Abbas said.
Abbas lashed out at the U.S. administration's application of double standards on the Palestinian issue.
"The United States has adopted double standards in matters related to the Palestinian people. The United States clamors for democracy and justice, but never practices democracy and justice as far as the Palestinian people are concerned. The United States supports the 'two-state solution' in words rather than in deeds," Abbas said.
The Palestinian president said his country will fight to the end to defend the Palestinian people's just cause of restoring their legitimate national rights.
"It's necessary to persuade Israel to accept the Palestinian people, and convince the United States to accept the Palestinian people. I would like to emphasize that the United States has not yet intended to resolve the problem for the Palestinian people, and has never exerted any pressure or mediated any efforts on Israel to accept this solution. We will continue to fight on our land until the United States recognizes the 'two-state solution' and the Palestinian people' rights to subsistence on this land," Abbas said.
