Georgia is ready to once again assume the role of a mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili announced this during his speech in the Parliament of Georgia Friday, reports the First Channel television Georgia.
"Georgia's foreign policy towards neighboring countries is aimed at balanced partnership relations and mutually beneficial cooperation," said Darchiashvili.
According to him, Georgia is intensively working towards strengthening peace and stability in the region.
"Our [i.e. Georgia’s] goal is to contribute to peace, stability, neighborliness, and economic development in the region; we are working intensively in that regard, and it is one of our main priorities. Within the framework of the initiative of peaceful neighborhood, Georgia has taken effective steps toward constructive dialogue between the two neighboring countries. We express our willingness to continue our participation in this regard in the future, too, as we believe that Georgia plays a natural role in ensuring peace and stability in the region,” stated the Georgian FM.
“We express our willingness to make our valuable contribution at any time. We all well remember the personal participation of the prime minister of Georgia in that process and the concrete results brought by his efforts towards the rapprochement of our two southern neighbors and the improvement of relations, so to speak," Ilia Darchiashvili added.
