European Council President Michel called Turkey’s President Erdoğan to congratulate him on his reelection. The call addressed regional issues, Turkish president’s press office reports.
President Erdoğan expressed the necessity to increase contacts at all levels with a concrete and positive agenda towards full membership of Turkey, which has a great strategic value for Europe, to the EU. Emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the areas of updating the Customs Union, ensuring visa liberalization, migration management and fight against terrorism.
Charles Michel issued a statement after the call with Erdogan. “In call with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, confirmed EU interest in strategic, mutually beneficial relationship between EU and Turkey. Frank and open dialogue on prospects for economic ties, mobility and security cooperation; stressed importance of rule of law. Appreciated Turkey’s role on Black Sea grain initiative”, said Michel in a twit.
