Pope Francis was reportedly doing "well" after spending a first night at Rome's Gemelli hospital following abdominal surgery.
According to Professor Alfieri from Gemelli Polyclinic, Pope Francis on Wednesday underwent a successful surgery at the Gemelli Hospital polyclinic due to a post-operative hernia with the syndrome of obstruction of the bowel that had been causing him pain over the last few months.
The professor added that during the operation, an important connection was found between the bowel and the peritoneum, and all the adhesions were freed. The surgery for the hernia was then performed in the normal manner, and the Pope tolerated the surgery well. Professor Alfieri confirmed that the Pope is awake, feeling fine, and has already resumed his duties.
