Georgian Airways is not afraid that Georgia's Western partners will impose sanctions against the airline. The Georgian opposition criticized the company for organizing transit flights from Moscow via Tbilisi to European countries. And the US State Department earlier threatened the Georgian authorities with sanctions for agreeing to receive planes from Russia.
“The real transit hub in the region is Turkey, a NATO member country, from which 40 flights to Russia are made daily and where 70% of transit traffic is. Our country cannot play a big role, our share will be less than a hundredth of a percent,” the press service of Georgian Airways stated.
If sanctions are imposed against Georgia, then Turkey, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Armenia, Azerbaijan and other countries should also be punished, the company noted.
As EADaily reported, Georgian Airways has started selling tickets for transit flights from Moscow to Europe. It will be possible to fly to Paris tomorrow, May 26. The transfer in Tbilisi will be one hour, the total travel time is more than nine hours. The flight to Vienna is scheduled for Sunday, May 28, the transfer will also last an hour.
On May 19, after a four-year break, direct flights between Moscow and Tbilisi resumed. The Russian companies Azimuth and Red Wings and the Georgian ‘Georgian Airways’ received permission to fly.
