Presidents of Russia and Iran Vladimir Putin and Ebrahim Raisi took part in the signing ceremony of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation on the creation of the "Rasht-Astara" railway in Iran to develop transportation along the "North-South" international transport corridor.
Vladimir Putin specially underlined that the railway construction would diversify global traffic flows, help to make the goods delivery faster and cheaper. He also mentioned that transport corridor would make a contribution to ensuring global food security.
"I will mention that it is planned to use the new highway, among other things, for the transportation of food and other products of the agro-industrial complex, which will be intended both for consumers in Iran and for the countries of the Persian Gulf and Africa. Thus, this transport corridor will make a tangible practical contribution to ensuring global food security," Putin said.
The length of the line will be 170 km. It will connect the land sections of the North-South international transport corridor. The construction of the transport line will be in cooperation with Azerbaijan.
