The US State Department has warned Georgia about possible “additional measures” due to the resumption of flights with Russia. The corresponding statement was made on Tuesday by Deputy Press Secretary of the US State Department Vedant Patel.
“If there are direct flights between Russia and Georgia, this will cause increasing concern not only on the part of the United States and other Western countries, but also on the part of companies that can operate at Georgian airports,” the State Department spokesman said.
According to him, it is, first of all, about the maintenance of aircraft by companies in Georgia, which are to be transferred to other countries.
“The entire Western community has distanced itself from the Russian Federation, and we believe that now is not the time to strengthen cooperation with Russia,” Patel said.
He recalled that the United States had clearly expressed its concern in this regard.
“We have made it very clear that we have also taken steps to prevent Russian aircraft from entering our airspace, as many Western countries have done. Therefore, we will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Patel said, adding that additional measures will be taken if necessary.
As you know, on May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15. He also lifted the ban on flights by Russian airlines and the sale of tours to Georgia.
