Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reaffirmed that Taiwan is part of China, and reunification will take place sooner or later, Reuters reports.
He made the remarks in an interview aired on Friday ahead of the inaugural China-Central Asia Summit, a two-day event to be held in Xian City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province starting May 18.
"We believe that it's a question which should be absolutely clear to everybody in the world. Taiwan is part of China, so the principle of the territorial integrity of all states has been fixed in the Charter of the United Nations, which must be respected. And this principle also has been put in the declaration and in the Charter of the Shanghai Organization for Cooperation. So once again, for us, it's absolutely clear Taiwan is part of China, and we have no hesitations about that," said Tokayev.
When asked about his stance on an eventual Chinese reunification, Tokayev gave a nod.
"Yes, of course. I think that eventual reunification will take place sooner or later," the Kazakh President said.
Next week, the heads of state of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will attend the China-Central Asia Summit, which will draw a new blueprint for China-Central Asia relations and open up a new era of cooperation.
