From April 29, the transfer of patients from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia’s medical centers, as well as the supply of medicine to Artsakh, stopped, Artsakh Ministry of Health informs about it.
The reason is another obstacle caused by the Azerbaijani side, because in the blocked section of the road near Shushi, the representatives of the Azerbaijani security forces demanded to carry out passport and car checks of Red Cross drivers and transported medical personnel, which was not carried out before and contradicts the norms of international humanitarian law.
During this period, 2 seriously ill patients were transferred from Artsakh to Armenia’s specialized medical institutions through the Russian peacekeeping troops, and 30 patients are waiting for urgent transfer. Patients are not being transported, this problem is becoming increasingly urgent.
Currently, the International Committee of the Red Cross has suspended the supply of medicine to the territory of the Republic of Artsakh, but we hope it will resume soon.
Due to the suspension of the import of medicines, scheduled surgeries, which were partially restored weeks ago, were again stopped in all medical institutions under the Artsakh Ministry of Health. Some efforts are being made to solve this problem, and we hope that the uninterrupted movement of the Red Cross will be restored in a short period of time.
