It is of the utmost priority for the European Union (EU) to help secure the ammunition that Ukraine needs, said European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen during a press conference on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
The EC President arrived in Kiev on the day for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with a joint press conference held after the talks.
At the press briefing, von der Leyen said that the EU now is working along three tracks to provide Ukraine with ammunition and will further tighten sanctions against Russia.
The fastest track is the immediate release of ammunition from member states' stocks, the second track that the EU agreed last week is to allocate one billion euros for the procurement of 155- and 152-millimeter ammunition, and the third track will help the member states to ramp up the production and delivery of ammunition to meet Ukraine's needs, according to von der Leyen.
Zelensky noted that it is time for a positive decision to launch negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU.
