For the first time in Georgia’s independent history, Portugal’s Minister of Defence, Helena Carreiras, paid a working visit to Georgia, 1tv.ge reports.
Georgia’s Minister of Defence, Juansher Burchuladze, hosted his counterpart. A bilateral meeting was held in the Ministry of Defense following the official welcoming ceremony.
Ministers discussed current concerns and international security issues. The conversation focused on future bilateral cooperation as well as Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The meeting emphasized Georgian and Portuguese military troops’ contribution to international security. The sides agreed to expand bilateral cooperation. Defence ministers signed a collaboration treaty.
Portuguese Minister met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during the tour. She also arrived at the occupation line and visited the National Defense Academy named after Davit Agmashenebeli in Gori.
