Anti-monarchist protesters marched through the streets of London on Saturday (May 6) as the coronation of King Charles got underway, Reuters reports.
Many waved flags from Republic, a group founded in 1983 that campaigns for an elected head of state. They believe Charles' accession to the throne presents their best chance of ending the monarchy, which traces its history back more than 1,000 years.
Dressed in yellow shirts and holding banners the group are expected to continue protesting after the coronation when the royals make their way to Buckingham Palace.
