I don't think that as a result of the Washington negotiations, we can talk about signing the document, Sargis Khandanyan, Chair of Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament of Armenia, said in a conversation with journalists. According to him, the international guarantees should be reliable enough to make it possible to conclude this treaty. Therefore, according to Khandanyan, the core of the current discussion is to understand how the viability of a possible peace treaty will be guaranteed.
To the journalists’ question about how Armenia will react if Russia opposes these negotiations, Khandanyan answered: Russia is always in favor of peace in the region in its public statements, so he does not understand why it should oppose the negotiations aimed at it.
Referring to the statement of the Press Secretary of the Russian President that there is no alternative to the agreement of November 9 regarding the regulation of relations between Baku and Yerevan, Khandanyan noted that the document of November 9 is very important and it is important that many of the provisions recorded there are preserved. However, here the question is why the Russian Federation does not guarantee the provisions of that document, in particular the unhindered passage through the Lachin Corridor, the return of prisoners and other issues.
