Turkish President Recep Erdogan said on local television on Sunday that he is feeling well and has resumed his pre-election campaign after suffering a worsening of health last week. He also expressed his confidence regarding his victory in the May 14 presidential elections.
This confidence was inspired by the rally held in Ankara on Sunday, which was one of the largest before the May 14 elections. The number of participants of the action is not officially mentioned, but it is said that there are several hundreds of thousands of people, TV100 reports.
Erdogan's main rival, opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, is also confident of his victory, and on Sunday he held a demonstration of thousands in Izmir on the coast of the Aegean Sea. He announced that he planned to win the first round of the elections.
Local political analysts, however, do not rule out that the presidential elections in Turkey will be held in two rounds, as public opinion polls do not yet reveal a clear favorite.
To win the first round, a candidate must receive at least 50% of the vote plus 1 vote. Many experts consider such an outcome unlikely. In that case, the second round of elections will be held on May 28. The candidate with the most votes will be declared the winner.
