Today, Germany introduced a single ticket for public transport, which should relieve some of the burden on consumers’ wallets in the light of high inflation and encourage them to give priority to public transport in order to care for the environment. A monthly ticket costs 49 euros.
The ticket, called the deutschlandticket, offers unlimited access to buses and subways around the country, as well as local and regional trains. It is not only possible to travel with it on long-distance trains and buses, the French news agency AFP reported.
German Transport Minister Volker Wissing has already described the innovation as “the biggest public transport reform in German history”.
In the association of German carriers VDV, they expect that 16 million of Germany’s 84 million inhabitants will buy the new uniform. So far, approximately 750,000 tickets have been sold, not counting those who will exchange their current bus or train tickets for it.
