Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said a series of practical steps have been taken to clear up misunderstandings with the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of goodwill, Tasnim reports.
Following an agreement between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan and three rounds of talks, the media atmosphere of the two neighbors has been deescalated, Kanaani said at a weekly presser on Monday.
He also noted that practical steps have been taken to correct the misunderstandings between the two neighbors, highlighting the efforts that have been made on the basis of goodwill in this regard.
“We, as diplomats, are always optimistic about the political process,” the spokesman added.
Asked about the reports on the arrest of a number of heads of Azerbaijani groups in Iran, Kanaani said the media stories are either inaccurate or published with special objectives.
The spokesman underlined that the Iranian organizations in charge would take action, without exception, against any Iranian or foreign individual that commits wrongdoing or violates the law.
Following an armed attack on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran that killed an embassy staffer and injured two others in January, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said Tehran and Baku have strong bonds and won’t allow their relations to be influenced by ill-wishers.
In a telephone conversation with his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev, Raisi said the friendly and brotherly relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are based on unbreakable cultural and historical ties.
