The Human Rights Defender of Armenia is going to apply to the international institutions to present documented violations of the rights of the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) after the establishment of the Azerbaijani checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor, as well as possible dangers arising from them.
Anahit Manasyan (Armenia’s Human Rights Defender) - I will be in contact with the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe. I am going to send the records related to the problems to all other international structures that can play a role in this issue. The problems that have appeared in the field of human rights protection due to the created situation should be presented.
After assuming the position, Anahit Manasyan had active meetings with foreign ambassadors accredited to our country, presented the violations of people's fundamental rights as a result of the situation in Artsakh. According to the Ombudswoman, the reaction of the diplomats is clear: people's rights must be guaranteed in any situation.
Anahit Manasyan - Everyone is concerned about the problems related to the protection of human rights. And it is very important to show them that this problem is not primarily a territorial problem, but it represents an important problem from the point of view of human rights, and it represents a vital problem, because legal issues should always take precedence over political issues.
The Ombudswoman highlights working with international partners, emphasizing that the accurate use of legal frameworks can further contribute to the settlement of issues in the political field. Manasyan is in daily contact with her counterpart in Artsakh.
Anahit Manasyan - We are witnessing serious cases, starting with various issues related to people's right to health care, when complications arise, in terms of guaranteeing people's right to health care, providing medical care and proper service, this is actually a vital issue. Solving these problems is very important so that we also avoid the danger of ethnic cleansing of Artsakh Armenians.
In the center of attention of the defender's office are the issues related to the 33 persons illegally held and captured in Azerbaijan. Three days after the escalation in Tegh village, Manasyan visited Syunik province, collected facts and evidence confirming the violations of people's rights, and listened to the problems of residents. The Ombudswoman’s visits to border settlements will continue, the next one is Gegharkunik province.
